EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS also known as The Day of The Dead. The Day of the dead is an ancient Mexican holiday that began as a day of thanks. It became a time to remember ancestors and loved ones who have passed away. On the fist day - November 1st, relatives put flowers on graveyards and create alters somewhere in the house. The alters are not places for worship, they serve the same purpose as having a scrapbook or photo album. They place pictures and favorite objects of the loved ones on the alter. The rest of the day is spent making food. The second day, families have a big celebration at their homes. They serve the food and eat candy shaped like skeletons. It is a very happy holiday with singing and dancing. On the 3rd day, the holiday expands to the town with parades and floats. The skeleton is a very famous symbol for El Dia De Los Muertos.
